Where’s Winter???

January 22nd, 2009 admin No comments

Back in the Summer I wrote about the record heat wave we had been having in the Denver area.  As I write this blog post we could be heading for another record today.  This past week it’s been un-seasonably mild.  Yesterday as temps topped out at 71 degrees we broke a 59 year old record.  Is this global warming?  Before everyone panics.  The record set 59 years ago was 70 degrees.

Many other regions of the lower 48 are seeing below average temperatures.   New England hasn’t really thawed out from the massive winter ice storm that tore through the area last December.   Is this global cooling?

Somebody needs to make up their mind.

“Change” is coming…at least to Colorado.  We should be back in the normal temperature ranges by weekend.  Hopefully we’ll receive a little moisture as well.  Things are looking dry and I’m personally concerned this lack of moisture could impact our Spring flowers…not to mention the lack of water to drink.

I certainly don’t mean to make fun of global warming ( or global cooling for that matter).  I suppose someone on the face of the earth knows for sure what is going on.  Or do they?  I’ll admit that I wouldn’t know global warming if it came up and bit me in the….leg.  But I wonder how much of this is just a label?  I mean we’re always trying to label everything…we need it to have a name.

I’ll be the first to admit that we all need to do our part to help the environment.  I’m just not sure breaking a 59 year old record by one degree fits into the global warming category.

Until next time….

Record Set – 24 days

August 7th, 2008 admin No comments

Well folks…a new record has been established at 24 days of 90+ (32c) weather in the Mile High City.  It all came to an end yesterday as clouds and evening rain kept the daytime high at 88 degrees.  We received some much needed rain lastnight and today the forecast is calling for daytime highs in the mid 70′s with afternoon/evening rain likely.

Hot, Hot, Hot

The weather outside is frightful…On Thursday we set a new record for the most consecutive days in a row above 90 degrees (19 days).  18 days was the record set back in 1901.  Today (Friday, 1 August) is day number 20 and the forecasted high is 101 and tomorrow is about the same.  As a matter of fact this 1901 record is going to be busted wide open as we will easily add another 4-5 days to it.  As the forecast goes, next Tuesday could be the day the 90+ streak ends….but I said could be.  You’ll just have to wait and see.

Now I know I can’t really complain.  While most of Colorado has been melting away in 90+ degree weather…Texas and some of the other Southern states have had to deal with upper 90 and triple digits in the neighborhood of 101, 102, 103, 104, 105 etc.   With those high temps and the high humidity, I know I really don’t have anything to complain about.

I suppose it’s all in how you look at it.  While Texas has already had multiple days above 100…we’ve only had one this year and most likely escape the summer with only having experienced three…maybe four.

Until next time….

73 to all
